Dustin Poirier recently came clear about his choice of rival for his final bout. His recent tweet indicated that he wanted to lock horns with a former UFC champion for his "last dance" inside the octagon.

Poirier had been hinting at his retirement in the lead up to his last fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302. However, his octagon interview with Joe Rogan after losing to the reigning lightweight champion had him revealing that he had a few more fights left in him. Since then, Poirier has been scouting rivals for his next encounter.

That said, Poirier's recent tweet implied that he has made up his mind about retiring after one more encounter. Moreover, 'The Diamond' also indicated that he wanted to lock horns with former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway for the same.

The Lafayette native retweeted a fan's tweet which asked Dana White to book a Poirier vs. Holloway encounter with the UFC's BMF title on the line. The caption to his retweet read:

"Last Dance"

How has the Dustin Poirier vs. Max Holloway rivalry played out till now?

Both Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway have been in the UFC for more than 10 years now.

They shared the octagon for the first time at UFC 143 in February 2012 as featherweights. The fight also marked Holloway's UFC debut, where the Louisiana native picked up a comparatively easy victory by submitting him with an upward triangle armbar in the first round.

However, Poirier had to work a lot harder to earn his victory over Holloway the second time. The encounter took place at UFC 236 in April 2019 with 'Blessed' moving up to lightweight to challenge Poirier for the UFC interim lightweight gold.

The fight featured a five-round slugfest between the two where Poirier took home another victory, this time via a unanimous decision.
