Islam Makhachev recently tested out the punching machine that determines the amount of power in a fighter's blows. Despite not being known for his power, the UFC lightweight champion scored 106,322 units, which quickly drew the attention of fans on X.

A clip of him testing out his power has been making the rounds on the social media platform, where it was shared by popular MMA news page Championship Rounds. Given that Makhachev is known predominantly for his wrestling, hardly anyone expected him to hit as hard as he apparently does.

Fans flocked to form a thread under the tweet to express their various opinions. One tweet referenced the Dagestani star's success on the feet against well-known power-puncher and skilled MMA boxer Dustin Poirier in their recent scrap.

"Power is no joke had Poirier on the back foot"

Others felt that it was a positive sign for Makhachev's upcoming lightweight title defense against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311.

"Mr. P4P King seems to be dialed in for his fight against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 311."

Some implied that Dagestani fighters possess natural punching power:

"Dynamite in our hands"

Another fan praised Makhachev's power, citing how it has impacted some of his most recent opponents:

"Islam actually hits hard, dropped Charles, hurts Dustin and actually briefly dropped Volk"

While Makhachev has evolved into an exceptional striker, he is still mainly praised for his grappling. It has seen him submit Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belts in Dustin Poirier and Charles Oliveira.

Islam Makhachev had one of the most memorable knockouts of 2023

In late 2023, Islam Makhachev defended his lightweight title at UFC 294, where he faced a short-notice Alexander Volkanovski in a rematch. While the Australian was intent on finishing Makhachev early, it was the Dagestani fighter, who stopped him, knocking him out with a thunderous head kick in round one.

It marked the second time Volkanovski had ever been finished in his MMA career, and the first instance of him being finished in the UFC.
