#1. WBO super featherweight title: Emanuel Navarrete vs. Óscar Valdez 2
Emanuel Navarrete vs. Óscar Valdez is among next week's most highly anticipated boxing matches. It is a rematch of an Aug. 12, 2023, fight that saw Navarrete win via unanimous decision. Valdez, however, gave a good account of himself, at least in terms of toughness.
Both men endured significant punishment, with neither wilting besides Valdez, to an extent. So, how does their battle transpire in a rematch for the WBO super featherweight title? Navarrete is the defending champion, while Valdez is the interim titleholder.
Navarrete is winless since their last bout, failing to score victories in his previous two fights, losing to Denys Berinchyk and drawing against ex-WBC super featherweight champion Robson Conceição. The same, though, cannot be said for Valdez, who has won once since his loss to Navarrete.
Stylistically, Navarrete is a heavy pressure fighter who swarmed Valdez in their first outing, making the latter pay for his high guard by obliterating his midsection with body shots. However, Valdez did have some tricks up his sleeve to ward off the pressure, namely a left hook he'd fake to the body and then land upstairs.
Unfortunately, Valdez is too unorthodox to make his style work against someone with a tight enough grasp on fundamentals like Navarrete. Look for a repeat of their first fight. Navarrete will outbox him, but Valdez will prove too tough to finish.
The Prediction: Emanuel Navarrete via unanimous decision
