Molly McCann was handed a thorough beatdown by rising flyweight prospect Erin Blanchfield at UFC 281 at Madison Square Garden. Blanchfield came in as a -400 favorite and completely justified the odds with her sheer domination of 'Meatball' en route to a first-round submission finish.
After exchanging a few customary strikes on the feet, Blanchfield timed a beautiful double leg to take 'Meatball' down. 'Cold Blooded' immediately transitioned to a crucifix and unleashed numerous strikes and elbows. The 23-year-old eventually locked in a kimura but McCann refused to tap despite her arm appearing to be in a really bad spot.
Blanchfield went back to the crucifix and unleashed more ground and pound before locking in a second kimura which forced 'Meatball' to tap at the 3:37 mark of the very first round.

In an excellent show of sportsmanship, 'Meatball' lifted up her 23-year-old opponent after losing the fight. In her post-fight interview, Blanchfield stated that the referee could have intervened earlier in the fight when she was battering McCann from the crucifix.
Erin Blanchfield calls out Andrea Lee
Erin Blanchfield hails from Elmwood Park, New Jersey, a suburb 15 miles away from New York City. Despite 'Cold Blooded' being a local and a favorite, it was the underdog Molly McCann who had the crowd's support at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
In a befitting reply to the boos, Blanchfield merely dusted off her shoulders after a thoroughly dominant first-round submission win. The 10-1 prospect extended her winning streak to seven, which includes four octagon outings.
While Blanchfield has already displayed her talent in her previous outings, Joe Rogan feels like the win over McCann is the 23-year-old's coming out party. Currently ranked number 12 on the women's flyweight ladder, Blanchfield is eyeing a top-ten-ranked contender next.
With No. 10-ranked contender Casey O'Neill being out from an ACL tear, Blanchfield called out number nine-ranked Andrea Lee, who's coming off a loss to Viviane Araujo. 'Cold Blooded' said in her post-fight interview:
"I'm top 15, I wanna move into the top 10. I know Casey is still hurt but Andrea Lee doesn't have any fights, she is number nine. I would love to take that spot."
