Umar Nurmagomedov will have cousin and former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in his corner for his upcoming title fight against Merab Dvalishvili. The pair will clash for the bantamweight crown in the co-main event of UFC 311 on Jan. 18.
'Young Eagle' will not have his younger brother, Bellator MMA lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov, in his corner against 'The Machine', as he is currently preparing to face Paul Hughes on Jan. 25.
Ahead of Nurmagomedov's title fight with Dvalishvili, he was reminded of a viral moment while cornering of his brother, Usman, alongside 'The Eagle'. In the video, the former UFC champion can be seen locking in a submission on his younger cousin, Umar, in reaction to a submission attempt by the Bellator champion.
During a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, the UFC bantamweight was asked to share his reaction to the hilarious moment, and he said this:

"In that moment I wasn't thinking about that. I don't care, even if he choked me and I went to sleep, I don't think I will feel it. I was focused on my brother's fight."
When asked if he had ever witnessed 'The Eagle' doing that before in the corner, Nurmagomedov said this:
"It was the first time I saw it like that."

Umar Nurmagomedov is the man to overtake Khabib Nurmagomedov's 29-0 record, says Ali Abdelaziz
Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of only a few truly elite MMA fighters to retire with an undefeated record. 'The Eagle' laid down his gloves for good following his submission win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, retiring with a perfect 29-0 record.
The dominance displayed by Nurmagomedov throughout his career is almost unrivaled. But MMA manager of both fighters, Ali Abdelaziz, believes the one man who could replicate the former lightweight champion's domination is none other than his cousin, Umar Nurmagomedov.
Abdelaziz was recently interviewed by MMA Junkie ahead of UFC 311, where both Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev, another client of his, will compete for UFC gold.
While discussing the career of 'The Eagle', Abdelaziz said this:
"There’s no doubt in my mind Umar will be a champion at 135 pounds, and I believe Umar is going to be a champion for a long time. I think Umar is the only guy who can really challenge Khabib’s record. He can retire undefeated, 29-0, 30-0. Of course he has a tough opponent, but I believe Umar is better everywhere."
