The boxing world was impressed with Ryan Garcia's coach Derrick James ushering his pupil back into reality before the closing round of the fight against Devin Haney.

After knocking his opponent down in the seventh, 10th, and 11th rounds 'KingRy' was bustling with confidence and seemed like he was getting too comfortable.

Sensing the danger of getting complacent in the final moments of the fight, James issued a stark warning and some quality corner advice to Garcia prompting him to stay composed and not let Haney off the hook in the closing round:

"Do not give him a f*cking break. Go get him... Don't let him off the hook. Stay composed, but don't let him off the hook. Don't play with him, you f*ck with him and it's over."

Sure enough, the corner advice worked, 'KingRy' stayed largely composed, although he did a little showboating in the dying seconds and cruised to a majority decision win at the Barclays Center.

Despite the win the 25-year-old was ineligible to win Haney's WBC super lightweight title as he came in 3.2 pounds over the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds, for the fight.

Derrick James opens up on Ryan Garcia knocking down Devin Haney multiple times

The cherry on top of Ryan Garcia's dominant win over Devin Haney is the fact the 'KingRy' knocked 'The Dream' down multiple times during the contest. Interestingly even Garcia's coach Derrick James was surprised by his pupil's performance.

Talking to the Cigar Talk on whether he expected Haney to go down as many times as he did during the fight, James said:

"Man I didn't even [expect it], I'm going to be honest, no I didn't, no didn't, I'm going to be honest. It was very surprising."

This is the first time Haney has been handed a defeat in his professional career. However despite the loss 'The Dream' will retain his title since Garcia missed weight.
