Ex-Texas Governor credits Donald Trump for advancing plant medicine for veterans’ mental health on Joe Rogan’s podcast

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry advocated the usage of plant medicine for mental health improvement of American veterans in the latest episode of The Joe Rogan Experience (JRE). He also thanked the US President-elect, Donald Trump for taking the required steps towards normalizing this practice.

Along with being a Governor, Perry also served as the 14th secretary of energy for the US spanning from 2017 to 2019. The Perry-Rogan duo delved into discussions about a plethora of topics in the span of the entire JRE episode.

Perry detailed his learning about the benefits of using natural psychoactive medications like THC to boost a person's mental health and cure some diseases. He also detailed how it influenced him to legalize the medical usage of plant-based medications (cannabis) in the state of Texas during his rule.

"In 2013, I got into talking to a mother who has a son who’s an epileptic. And she said that the only thing we can give our son that’s relieved him of this is THC. I was against any of the usage of marijuana, medical or otherwise, in 2013. That mother came and sat down to me. I looked at the data, I listened to her powerful story and we passed [the bill] in Texas for medical usage of THC for the cases of epilepsy."

Perry clarified that he doesn't advocate the legalization of d*ugs. However, he mentioned that he is in favor of treating specific cases with plant-based psychoactives under strict medical supervision. The 74-year-old said:

"Thank God, Donald Trump won this election. He’s putting people into place that are open to plant medicine (psychoactives) being used for our veterans’ mental health."

Joe Rogan supported the usage of psychedelics for Rick Perry's highlighted purpose

Much like Rick Perry, Rogan has also advocated for the medical usage of certain drugs. He has also talked about how soldiers go through a lot during their service period, which ultimately affects their mental health making them vulnerable to diseases like PTSD.

In a previous episode of JRE, Rogan appreciated Robert F. Kennedy's steps toward treating the mental health disorders of veterans with psychedelic drugs. Rogan highlighted that American veterans were in the worst need of psychedelic therapy due to the trauma they go through. He said:

"Bob Kennedy (Robert F. Kennedy Jr.) is interested in this as well, it is psychedelic therapy for veterans. If there is a way to understand the benefits of pyschedelic therapy for everybody, the real pathway is through the veterans, who I think are the most in need of it."
