Rick Perry discusses $42 million public-private partnership for Ibogaine research on Joe Rogan's podcast
In the above-mentioned podcast, Perry revealed his plans to develop Ibogaine as a treatment for opioid use disorder in the country. He mentioned on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that former Attorney General Daniel Cameron encouraged him to lead the commission for developing the drug. Perry said:
“Attorney General [Daniel] Cameron blessed me to lead the commission on the exploration of setting aside $42 million—5% of the state settlement funds—to create a public-private partnership. A drug developer would match the state's investment on the front end by assuming all legal, logistical, and financial risks associated with securing FDA approval to pursue clinical research trials."
Perry added;
“The goal is to develop ibogaine as a breakthrough therapeutic treatment for opioid use disorder, co-occurring substance use disorders, and any other mental health conditions for which it proves effective.“ (1:25:00)
