A former UFC fighter recently expressed his thoughts on why Dana White would not be in favor of Belal Muhammad becoming the new welterweight champion.

Muhammad put up an impressive display against Leon Edwards and won the welterweight title by unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 304 last month. Following the win, many accused White of being unhappy with 'Remember the Name's' title victory. The UFC CEO strongly rejected these allegations, claiming that he was just in a bad mood at the time.

However, Darren Till holds a different opinion. Although he likes Muhammad as a person, the former welterweight title challenger emphasized that the American won't be as exciting as some of the other fighters on the UFC roster as a champion. In a recent interview with Title Sports Network, Till said:

“I think it’s good and bad. I think sometimes them guys are just them guys, aren’t they? Like, Paddy [Pimblett] is that guy, I was that guy, Conor [McGregor] and Israel Adesanya, and stuff like that. I love Belal. He knows I do.”

Till added:

“I’ve beefed him a lot on Twitter. If I was Dana [White], he probably wouldn’t be the champion I’d want. But you know what? He stayed true to himself. He’s carrying a big weight on his shoulders now with the belt, and obviously he’s a good guy. So, I’m not hating, but he’s probably not the most exciting champion you’d want.” [H/t: BJ Penn]

Muhammad immediately set his sights on his first title defense after winning UFC gold. In his post-fight interview, he mentioned Shavkat Rakhmonov and Kamaru Usman as potential opponents.

Meanwhile, Till knocked out Mohammad Mutie in his boxing debut last month, which ended in a post-fight brawl.

Belal Muhammad responds to Dana White's praise on his social media presence

In addition to winning the title after amassing a 10-fight unbeatn streak, Belal Muhammad's belt-wrapping ceremony video has received 22 million views. The number is 14 million more than that of interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, according to UFC CEO Dana White.
