Ex-UFC fighter shares eye-opening take on why Tom Aspinall would snatch the heavyweight gold from Jon Jones in 2025 

Former UFC fighter Josh Thomson recently presented his take on the eagerly awaited Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight.

It's been almost a year since Aspinall has been calling out for an undisputed heavyweight title fight against Jones. But 'Bones' denied all of them counting him as an undeserving rival due to his inferior resume.

Jones held onto his narrative of denying Aspinall's demands even after defending his title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. Despite Aspinall holding the interim heavyweight title, Jones wanted Alex Pereira as his next rival.

However, Thomson opined that the Jones vs. Aspinall encounter would happen within the current year. In his appearance on the latest episode of the WEIGHING IN podcast, Thomson also counted the reasons why he thinks Aspinall would get the better of Jones. He said:

"That fight [Jones vs. Aspinall] is gonna happen first, that’s kind of my way out so… Look I think Tom Aspinall beats Jon Jones. I think the size, and the speed, and the power [of Aspinall will be enough]. He’s got the ability [to counter] of his back. One area that Jon Jones has the advantage is the wrestling…but also [Jones is] getting older, [so] it’s harder to wrestle for Jon Jones."

Tom Aspinall is on the same page with Josh Thomson regarding the fight against Jon Jones

Tom Aspinall has tried various ways to get Jon Jones to accept his callouts, but to no effect. However, the UFC boss, Dana White has reportedly guaranteed Aspinall a shot at the undisputed UFC heavyweight gold.

In a recent video on his own YouTube channel, Aspinall shared his opinion on why he counts himself as better than Jones. He said:

"Good fight against Stipe. Let's remember, I ain't Stipe, completely different. And I possess a whole different attribute of skills, aggression, speed, power and everything else to Stipe Miocic. So, Stipe is retired, much respect to him. Much respect to Jon Jones, as well, believe it or not, but I'm coming for both of them belts and 2025 is when it's going to happen."
