Diana Belbita recently recounted her first experience working as a cutwoman and what she took away from the experience. The UFC competitor noted that the gig came about on short notice, but it was something that she had eventually wanted to do in the sport.
'The Warrior Princess' made headlines last year as she debuted as a cutwoman for Canadian MMA promotion Unified MMA. She revealed that she had done some prior training and was knowledgeable enough of the techniques to be a cutwoman.
During an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda MMA, the UFC competitor noted that it came about when she was on her way to the event as a fan and described what it was like being relied on to treat the fighters in-between rounds. Belbita mentioned that she enjoyed it and has since continued to serve as a Unified MMA cutwoman when called upon. She said:
"I was going to the [Unified MMA] event, to watch the event. And then my coach called me...It was actually cool. Being there for the first time and I did some training before that because my coach is a great cutman and I always loved it...So it was fun and to be honest, I really loved the experience and now I'm working most of the Unified MMA events." Diana Belbita discusses whether she would consider being a UFC cutwoman
After gaining experience as a cutwoman working for Unified MMA events in Canada, Diana Belbita would have a seamless transition should she pursue being a cutwoman for the UFC.
During the aforementioned interview, 'The Warrior Princess' revealed that she had a hilarious interaction with Dana White and UFC matchmaker Mick Maynard when working at a Unified MMA event. Belbita mentioned that although she enjoys her work as a cutwoman, she doesn't envision working in that role full-time. She said:
"They [White and Maynard] saw me working there [at Unified MMA]. I don't know [if I'd be a UFC cutwoman]. I mean, I love to do it [being a cutwoman] but it can just be a side job because you cannot have it as a full time job but I love it." [20:30 - 20:42]
