One thing you don't want to do to ONE grappling phenom and ADCC open-weight bronze medalist Tye Ruotolo is disrespect him before a match. Such was the lesson learned by grappling icon and multi-time EBI world champion Garry 'The Lion Killer' Tonon back in May this year.

In a video package shared to ONE Championship's Instagram account, Tonon can be seen ignoring Ruotolo's handshake offer during their weigh-in face-off. Cut to the 19-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu blackbelt submitting 'The Lion Killer' with a D'arce choke in under two minutes.

Here's the video:

Comments on Tye Ruotolo subbing Garry Tonon

Notable comments include one user that goes by @ryuichi.nawa who gave an opposing insight:

"Shaking hands have nothing to do with fighting"

You should see the thread of this person's comment. It's quite interesting how people with opposing views express their honest opinions. Spoiler: it can get personal and mean.

Another notable comment that counters @ryuichi.nawa's take is from MMA legend and former world title challenger, Antonio 'Bigfoot' Silva himself:

"#respect always."

When it comes to this debate, it's best to trust the views of a person who is renowned on the topic. If Silva says respect should always be observed in professional fighting, we side with him.

Perhaps the comments that are most interesting, however, aren't about respect or even about the video at all. Users @kevinxloeza and @prince_yanun both share the same idea in their comments:

"Two words. Gordon Ryan"

There's an ongoing beef between Tye Ruotolo and No Gi jiu-jitsu icon Gordon Ryan that's increasingly reaching fever pitch. What started as a friendly challenge has evolved into a full-blown social media trash-talk marathon with both parties not holding back.

Tye Ruotolo is starting an intense rivalry with Garry Tonon's teammate, the legendary Gordon Ryan

Perhaps after handily defeating 'The Lion Killer', Tye Ruotolo found the confidence to call out one of Tonon's teammates, Gordon Ryan. It's quite a bold move considering Ryan's significant size advantage and level of greatness in the sport.

Ryan is the current ADCC +99 and Superfight world champion, as well as a five-time ADCC gold medalist, two-time IBJJF No Gi world champion, and four-time EBI world champion. 'The King', as his fans call him, is largely considered by many to be the greatest No Gi grappler of all time.

The beef started with Tye Ruotolo calling out Gordon Ryan via social media:

“Remember that Darce at Modolfo? It would be competitive now and I’m 19 and natural. I guarantee you retire before I gain 15 pounds. Pure facts, no ill intent. Let’s do the same deal you did with Pena. No time limit.”

Never to be outgunned verbally, Ryan commented on the post with:

"How about you put up your 50k win bonus from ONE and I'll put up my same 100k that I did with pena? 2-1 odds no time limit. Just remember, I'm not Josh hinger, and you couldn't beat him"

The beef has escalated into lengthy trash-talking and back-and-forth ranting on social media. It's a developing story and we're eager to see where it goes next. If a Gordon Ryan vs. Tye Ruotolo open-weight superfight ever happens in ONE Championship, it would easily top all grappling events this year.
