“Muay Thai Diaz...” - Fans react to Nate Diaz potentially signing with ONE Championship

The public has spoken, and a lot of ONE fans want to see Nate Diaz fighting inside the circle.

This once wild idea is now closer to reality after the 37-year-old MMA star fought out his UFC contract, submitting Tony Ferguson with a guillotine choke last month. With that, it’s no secret that Diaz is the hottest free agent in the MMA market at the moment.

ONE, of course, is always on the lookout for new talents.

The largest martial arts organization in the world recently made one of its most blockbuster signings yet after agreeing to terms with Croatian sensation Roberto ‘Robocop’ Soldic.

An established fighter like Nate Diaz, who already has a massive devoted following, will no doubt bring a whole new set of fans to the Singapore-based promotion.

For instance, Diaz’s legion of fans have already green-lighted a possible move to ONE.

Here are some of the responses posted on Sportskeeda MMA’s Instagram account, which re-posted a positive quote about a possible Diaz signing from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

One commenter lauded ONE’s loaded roster and the intriguing matchups that Diaz could take part in:

“100% ONE fighting Championship has a lot of elite fighters too.”

Since the Stockton, California native has a black belt under Cesar Gracie, one fan suggested that he could partake in the promotion’s growing submission grappling scene:

“Nate Diaz grappling match 🔥”

Another fan suggested that Diaz should try ONE’s unique striking-only matches under Muay Thai and kickboxing rules.

“[ONE] is underrated hardcore, Go get that money Nate he can do a couple jiu Jitsu matches in there, a couple MMA matches, kickboxing whatever(pure striking doesn't sound like a good idea for him though)”

We know Diaz is down for anything. So, why not, right?

Nate, along with his brother Nick Diaz, became fan favorites for their no-nonsense attitude and their versatility as fighters.

The possibilities are indeed endless if ONE does reach an agreement with the enigmatic star.

Chatri Sityodtong is ‘interested’ in Nate Diaz

ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong recently appeared on The MMA Hour and was asked by Ariel Helwani about his stance on Nate Diaz's availability. The promotion, after all, tends to prefer signing young up-and-coming fighters who are still in their prime.

At 37 years old, it’s clear that Diaz’s best days are already behind him. However, Sityodtong admitted that he is intrigued by the American and would consider offering him a contract.

The successful entrepreneur believes Diaz could be an asset not just in MMA, but in the other disciplines that ONE currently hosts.

Sityodtong said:

"What makes Nate interesting, obviously, is that he wants to do multiple sports and so that is definitely the platform of ONE. When you look at Roberto [Soldic], he says he wants to win world titles in all the major disciplines and he wants to be the greatest combat sports athlete ever.”
