ONE Championship has big plans for their U.S. expansion in 2023
ONE Championship will make its highly-anticipated debut on North American soil in 2023. One of the concerns for fighting in the U.S. was being able to use their own ruleset, which features a different scoring system and grounded knee strikes.
During an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, ONE chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong had this to say about what the promotion is doing to get it approved:
“We have Rich Franklin working with the various athletic commissions and getting our medical system, our hydration process, and our rule set approved. He’s going state by state, so we’ve got a few states that have approved.”
ONE on Fight Night 10 on Prime Video will take place on May 5 in Broomfield, Colorado. The event is headlined by the trilogy fight between Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes for the ONE flyweight world title.
It’s unclear what other states have accepted ONE’s ruleset, but Colorado has been known to try out different rulesets, including open scoring.
