Superlek defended his flyweight kickboxing world championship at ONE Fight Night 8

At ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video, Superlek Kiatmoo9 defended his ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship for the first time.

After winning the vacant world title in January at ONE Fight Night 6, the world champion was scheduled to face Rodtang Jitmuangnon in a striking superfight this past weekend.

Unfortunately, an injury forced Rodtang out of the fight and Danial Williams stepped into the main event to challenge the world champion. Whilst Williams was outclassed in the contest, there wouldn’t have been a main event in the first place without him.

Despite his courage to step in and face ‘The Kicking Machine’ with no time to specifically prepare, Williams found himself on the end of a devastating third-round knockout.

Superlek has a message for Danial Williams after third-round KO win

At ONE Fight Night 8, Superlek Kiamtoo9 was nearly left without an opponent in Singapore.

The ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion was scheduled to face off against Rodtang Jitmuangnon in the main event in one of the best striking matchups of the entire year.

When news broke that the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion would need to pull out of the fight due to an injury, everyone was disappointed to see the fight fall off the card.

In his place, Danial Williams stepped into the main event after being scheduled to face Rui Botelho in a Muay Thai contest on the same night. With nothing to lose, Williams saved the day by allowing the main event to still go ahead even if it wasn’t with the original match-up that fans wanted to see.

Whilst in terms of the performance itself, the fight against Williams was quite routine for ‘The Kicking Machine’, he was grateful to his opponent for accepting the fight in the first place.

In a dominant performance, Superlek defended his world title for the first time and gave thanks to his opponent after the fight in his post-event interview:

“I would like to thank him for accepting this fight last minute, I would like to say that he's a very strong fighter. I respect his heart. I respect his courage. I have nothing to say except thank you very much.”
