Michael Chandler could be at a particular disadvantage against Paddy Pimblett if this rumoured bout ever comes to fruition according to one of MMA's more tenured figures. In a clip from episode 534 of Weighing IN podcast, John McCarthy and Josh Thomson discussed the machinations of this matchup if it were to become an officially locked-in contest.

When discussing a distinct area within Chandler that Pimblett could exploit to his benefit, McCarthy said:

"Father time is a mother, man. In no way am I disrespecting or putting Michael Chandler down. Michael Chandler is a f***in dog. He is a tough son of a b***h. He will fight until the very end. I take nothing from him, it's just that he's getting older."
"What made him who he was, he works his a** off. Nothing against him as far as his training. It's just as you get older, the speed just changes a little bit and that little bit makes huge differences in the cage against a younger fighter which Pimblett is," he added.

Michael Chandler gets called out for BKFC bout by a familiar foe

Michael Chandler has had several barnburner contests in his career but there is a single opponent who stands out among the pack, Chandler had a pair of classic contests with Eddie Alvarez under the Bellator MMA banner. However, the latter is frustrated with how 'Iron' has performed in the UFC per his recent interview with MMA Junkie.

Alvarez thinks Chandler has all the tools to win a UFC title but wondered why the 38-year-old has not tapped into his full skillset and seemingly underperformed in his octagon run so far.

Chandler went 1-1 with Alvarez in mixed martial arts contests but it seems like 'The Underground King' is keen on having their rubber match in bare-knuckle boxing. Alvarez intimated that perhaps Chandler may get cut from the UFC with another in-cage loss and put out the idea that perhaps the two could have their trilogy bout in BKFC.

"Let him fight again and if he's on the same trajectory and he loses again, he can maybe get cut," Alvarez said of Chandler. "[If] they don't want him, and then just come over to bare knuckle [boxing] and let's do it with no gloves. I think that's the kind of violence this world needs right now. It's too safe."
