One of Jorge Masvidal's past opponents weighed in on the announcement for his next bout as he is scheduled to fight Gilbert Burns in the co-main event of UFC 287 on April 8.
'Gamebred's former opponent Ben Askren joined Daniel Cormier on his Check In interview series on his YouTube channel, where he gave his thoughts on the 'BMF' title holder's mindset heading into a tough matchup with Burns. He mentioned that he believes Masvidal doesn't necessarily think he can win.
He said:
"Gilbert Burns is top of this division {welterweight} for sure and Masvidal could beat him, then I think he would be fighting for the title next...That's why he's been saying no to Burns because he doesn't think he's gonna win either. 'DC', you know how most of these dudes work. If they think, 'I can beat that dude up,' they say yes easy." [5:02 - 5:25]

The former foes clearly haven't squashed their beef since their bout that saw 'Gamebred' earn the fastest knockout win in UFC history with a flying-knee. 'Funky' went as far as saying that 'Durinho' is everything that the 'BMF' title holder wishes he was, saying:
"I acutally think Burns is kind of like what Jorge wants to be. Burns is like, 'I'll fight anyone,' and he actually will." [7:52 - 7:57]
'Gamebred' has yet to respond to Askren's comments, but he will most likely remind him of the flying-knee like he has done in the past.

Jorge Masvidal looking to snap his losing skid at UFC 287
There is a lot at stake for Jorge Masvidal and Gilbert Burns when they fight at UFC 287.
'Gamebred' comes into this fight looking to snap a three-fight losing skid. He lost back-to-back title fights against Kamaru Usman and most recently lost a unanimous decision to friend-turned-enemy Colby Covington. His last win came against Nate Diaz when they fought for the 'BMF' title at UFC 244.
Meanwhile, Burns could be closing in on another title shot should he earn another decisive win. He defeated Neil Magny in decisively at UFC 283 last month and could get his name in the title picture if he can replicate that performance against the 'BMF' title holder.
