UFC lightweight KO artist Drew Dober is getting a new opponent at UFC on ESPN 59 in Denver, Colorado next weekend. After his original opponent, the streaking Mike Davis got injured, the heavy-handed Dober will now face Jean Silva, who just fought this past Saturday at UFC 303.
Although Silva is on a hot 10-fight winning streak at the moment and won his UFC 303 fight against Charles Jourdain via second-round KO, it's still a big ask to face someone like Dober on two weeks' notice. More so, if you're coming off a fight yourself.
This sentiment is echoed by a former Drew Dober opponent, Terrance McKinney. In 2022, McKinney stepped in to replace Ricky Glenn, also on two weeks' notice. After knocking down Dober twice in the first minute, McKinney was finished via TKO in Round 1. The back-and-forth brawl won Sherdog's 2022 Round of the Year. McKinney sent a warning to Silva on X, saying:

Drew Dober vs. Jean Silva could propel either fighter to the next level
Drew Dober is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Renato Moicano at UFC Fight Night 235 earlier this year. He is 3-2 in his past five fights in the promotion, exchanging wins and losses. Tied for the most knockouts in UFC lightweight history with nine, Dober has staying power in the organization, regardless if he loses a bout here or there. It might, however, propel him closer to the top 15 if he defeats a streaking fighter like Silva.
As for Jean Silva, coming off back-to-back KO wins in the organization, on top of a 10-fight winning streak, means he is primed to be elevated with a win over a divisional mainstay like Dober. Add the fact that he's making an extremely fast turnaround and taking the fight on two weeks' notice and Silva becomes a man with everything to gain but nothing much to lose.
This fight could be the sleeper Fight of the Night of the entire card.
