A former two-time champion recently confirmed that he intends to retire from MMA following his upcoming bout at UFC Seattle regardless of the result. He noted that injuries have taken a toll and doesn't want to be in a position where his day-to-day life is affected because he competed longer.

Former WEC and UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has unfortunately been sidelined with several injuries throughout his legendary career, which impacted his prime years in the sport. Despite the injuries, Cruz is still considered by many as one of the greatest bantamweights of all time and will look to retire on a positive note by defeating Rob Font.

During his latest appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, 'The Dominator' referenced former foe T.J. Dillashaw as an example for why he wants to retire before suffering another serious shoulder injury. Cruz mentioned that he has been forced to adjust his training due to his injuries and believes now is the right time to retire:

"Yes, [retiring after this fight is] what's going to happen. The body just isn't the same anymore. When you got to start training differently because the body isn't doing what you need it to then you're subsidizing...I think if I just keep going and going, I could end up in a space where I can't lift my arm."

Dominick Cruz discloses how he has prepared for UFC Seattle

In addition to confirming his retirement following his upcoming bout against Rob Font at UFC Seattle, Dominick Cruz disclosed how he has been preparing for his final bout.

During the aforementioned clip, Cruz mentioned that he has been using the layoff since his 2022 bout against Marlon Vera to recover and ensure he is capable of getting through a training camp and remaining healthy when he steps in the octagon:

"I've had multiple shoulder surgeries, those are the things I have been building over this time that I've been off is rebuilding the body for this fight to come back and make sure that I can make it through a camp in one piece. And that's always the tough part because I train extremely hard...I don't want that to be a reason that I don't look as good as I could on fight night."
