A former UFC champion recently described his experience sparring with Cain Velasquez and noted that it was far from being enjoyable. He highlighted the former heavyweight champion's skills and relentless cardio for being what separated him from the rest.
American Kickboxing Academy has an excellent reputation for being one of the top MMA gyms in the sport with their success rate of producing world class fighters and champions.
In addition to Velasquez, fighters that have fought out of there in recent years include Daniel Cormier, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Luke Rockhold. All four fighters were ascending the rankings of their respective divisions at the same time, so training together was definitely beneficial for their careers.
During his latest appearance on JAXXON PODCAST, the former UFC middleweight champion Ruckhold mentioned that he was more competitive with Cormier, but was unable to have any success against Velasquez.

"[Sparring with] Cain was not fun...I had to have Javier [Mendez] put a fu**ing leash on Cain. Just ready to pull that bi*ch off because I would get to him a little bit in the first round, but his size and his ferocity. I mean, he just had wrestling, striking, Jiu Jitsu, he had everything... At that time, there was nobody that can touch Cain."

When did Cain Velasquez win the UFC heavyweight championship?
Cain Velasquez is regarded by many as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, especially for how dominant he was during his ascension to becoming UFC heavyweight champion. Velasquez famously won the heavyweight championship after earning an impressive first-round TKO over Brock Lesnar in the main event of UFC 121 in October 2010.
It was a fiery start as the WWE superstar-turned-UFC champion surprisingly rushed in and forced a striking exchange and then secured a takedown shortly after. However, Velasquez quickly got back to his feet and completely overwhelmed Lesnar with his pace before dropping him with a flurry of strikes and finished him with ground and pound.
In addition to becoming the new UFC heavyweight champion, Velasquez also earned a post-fight bonus for Knockout of the Night.
