A former UFC fighter recently looked back on his title fight with Conor McGregor. The individual expressed disappointment over his performance against McGregor but has vowed to put up a tough fight in his next combat sports appearance.
The person in question is Eddie Alvarez, who put his lightweight title on the line against McGregor in the main event of UFC 205 at Madison Square Garden in 2016. Alvarez was outclassed in the fight as 'The Notorious' knocked him out with his sharp combination of punches in the second round and made history becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously.
After over eight years, Alvarez voiced his frustration in an interview with MMA Fighting, citing that he usually performed at big stages but failed that evening, which still bothers him. He said:
''There’s been one time and everybody knows the Conor fight where I went into somewhat near my hometown and I didn’t show up. That was probably the one time that really shocked even myself. Because throughout my entire career, home or anywhere nearby, whenever that spotlight’s on me and whenever the stakes are big, that’s when I show up big.''

Alvarez then promised to return stronger, saying:
''I’ll be able to make it up to my Philadelphia fans. Look, I got my shot at Madison Square Garden. I hated the way I performed. I hated everything about it. But there’s only stadium better than Madison Square Garden and that’s the Well Fargo in Philadelphia.'' [H/t: MMA Fighting]

Following his departure from UFC and a short stint with the ONE Championship, Alvarez signed with BKFC and secured a split-decision win against Chad Mendes at BKFC 41 last year. He is now set to face Jeremy Stephens at BKFC: Knuckle Mania 5 on Jan. 25 in Philadelphia.
Eddie Alvarez is unsure if Conor McGregor will fight at BKFC
Conor McGregor's future with the UFC is still up in the air but many expect him to make his octagon comeback this year.
In the aforementioned interview with MMA Fighting, Eddie Alvarez discussed McGregor's contract situation with the UFC, stating it would be difficult for the Irishman to get out of the contract and compete for BKFC:
''Realistically, I think he still has two fights left on his UFC contract. I just know how difficult it is, especially when you’re that valuable to a company...They don’t make it easy...It’s going to be tough for him to fight those fights out and move onto another contract. So realistically, I don’t know if he could fight BKFC, and if he does, it’ll be maybe when he’s older.” [H/t: talkSPORT]
