Former UFC fighter Matt Hamill recently shared a piece of good news on social media. 'The Hammer' uploaded a post to his Instagram that featured a picture of him with his family members.
In the caption of the post, Hamill shared how with the help of digital hearing aids, he had managed to overcome his lifelong deafness. The 48-year-old also spoke about the emotional feeling of being able to listen to his loved ones' voices for the first time.
"I just got the most powerful digital hearing aids ever made. For the first time in 41 years, I can finally hear my kids' voices, the sound of people walking and laughing. I finally hear my mom's vice and she cried. I'm looking forward to hearing my brother Pat's voice too. I only hope he doesn't have a voice like a foghorn. This is awesome although I know it will take time to adapt to all of this. Happy New Year!"

During his stint in the UFC, Hamill was a part of 15 fights and managed to win 10 of them. One unique distinction that Hamill has is that he is the only professional fighter that has a win over current UFC heavyweight king Jon Jones.
The two athletes were matched up for a light heavyweight showdown on December 5, 2009. At one point in their fight, Jones got into top position on the ground and started to land 12-to-6 elbows, an illegal move at the time, on Hamill. This led to the referee intervening and stopping the fight.
Jones was disqualified for his actions and 'The Hammer' was announced the winner.
