Islam Makhachev recently took part in a harmless grappling session with controversial streamer Adin Ross, which drew the attention of former UFC middleweight Derek Brunson. The short training session was relatively friendly in nature, and saw Makhachev demonstrate a twister on Ross.
Despite verbally exclaiming his pain, it did not occur to Ross to tap out until he was told to by someone off-camera. Brunson found the entire session amusing, taking to X/Twitter to offer his two cents on it. As he said it, Makhachev was cheeky for walking Ross through a twister setup only to apply the submission on him.
"Tricky triicky. Told him to cross his legs, only BJJ practitioners would understand!"

Brunson was once a top name in the UFC middleweight division, but never managed to break into the top three and secure a title shot, despite an attempt to rematch the division's then champion Israel Adesanya. Moreover, he has lost to several fighters who went on to hold the belt, not just Adesanya.
Beyond the Adesanya TKO loss, he was also stopped by former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker and current middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis. All three men finished him on their rise to championship contention as well. Meanwhile, Makhachev is gearing up for his own title fight at UFC 311.
He is set to defend his lightweight title against a game Arman Tsarukyan, who is seeking vengeance after losing a short-notice rematch to the Dagestani grappler years ago. With the fight just one week away, it is likely that Makhachev will spend less time collaborating with streamers, and more time managing his weight cut.
Islam Makhachev isn't the only UFC fighter to choke out a public figure
While Islam Makhachev is the most recent UFC fighter to grapple with a public figure, he isn't the only one. Colby Covington previously grappled rapper, Lil Pump, submitting him with a rear-naked choke. However, the grappling session drew controversy as Covington refused to release the chokehold.

This is noticeably different from how Makhachev's grappling session and submission on Adin Ross transpired. Instead of choking him unconscious, he relinquished the hold the moment he felt the taps.
