Forrest Griffin continues to positively impact the UFC after announcing a new partnership to help fighters cut weight.
Weight cutting is an intense side of mixed martial arts that forces fighters to drain their bodies to acquire a strength advantage. Although MMA continues to grow, some old-school processes, like weight cutting, can plaque the sport’s reputation.
With that said, Forrest Griffin, a UFC Hall of Famer, works closely with the promotion to improve fighter’s health. The UFC has officially signed a deal with Sweet Sweat, a workout-enhancing gel that helps the body sweat more efficiently, which could also improve controlled weight cutting. The latest partnership was announced on Twitter with the caption:
“@ForrestGriffin and the entire @UFCPI staff are proud to partner with @SweetSweat to individually tailor each athlete’s cut to maximize their performance and elongate their careers. [ B2YB @SweetSweat ]”

The announcement featured Griffin revealing some details of the partnership by saying:
“There’s a lot of modalities to cut weight. One of the things that’s really exciting is when we get to work with an athlete over a long period of time and we have specific information as to their sweat rate. We know how long it’s gonna take them to break a sweat and how much water weight they’re gonna lose in that period of time…”
Weight cutting has produced several awful moments, including Julia Stoliarenko fainting after a 2021 weigh-in. The process of cutting weight to gain an advantage won’t be going away anytime soon, so the best thing to do is to try to regulate the process, which Griffin and the UFC are actively trying to improve with the Sweat Sweat partnership.
