Forrest Griffin pens emotional message in response to legendary opponent Stephan Bonnar's demise

Since the recent passing of former UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar, Forrest Griffin took to Twitter to post an emotional message for his octagon opponent.

On Christmas Eve, the UFC announced that Bonnar had died at the age of 45. ‘The American Psycho’ fought in the UFC 15 times, with his most memorable performance coming in his promotional debut. The Indiana native fought Griffin at the Ultimate Fighter Season 1 Finale in April 2005.

Griffin and Bonnar went back and forth in a thrilling three-round decision. ‘The American Psycho’ ended up losing the bout but solidified an everlasting legacy. Years later, Dana White labeled the light heavyweight war as one of the most important fights in promotional history. The UFC praised the TUF 1 finale on Twitter with the caption:

“We honor the late Stephan Bonnar by looking back at his iconic fight with @ForrestGriffin”

Griffin and Bonnar became good friends outside the octagon after bonding in the Ultimate Fighter house. The former UFC champion responded to his friend passing away on Twitter by writing:

“Stephan was a lot of things: He was always the most interesting person in the room, he had the biggest heart and most importantly, he was my friend. I always loved it that people got excited when they found out we were really friends. I’ll always miss you, brother.”

Before Dana White and the Fertitta brothers created The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC was struggling to stay in business. Season one was widely entertaining, and Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar solidified the experiment as a success with their Hall of Fame fight in 2005.

Once Griffin posted his reaction to Bonnar passing away, fans filled the comment section with praise:

“Your fight was truly one of the most important sports moments I have ever actually witnessed in my life and probably the most significant one to MY life personally because of how it inspired my path into MMA. Legends never die”
“Your scrap with him was legendary. Very sorry for your loss, Forrest.”
“You two are the reason I became a fan of the UFC.”
“The fight that changed the game. TY for the path you guys paved. Rest easy @StephanBonnar”

Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar fought again at UFC 62 with the same result as their first fight. ‘The American Psycho’ had issues outside of fighting, but the Indiana native always gave his all in the cctagon. May his soul rest in peace.
