What did Kelvin Gastelum say in his post-fight interview at UFC 287?
Prior to his fight against Chris Curtis at UFC 287, Kelvin Gastelum was going through a rough patch in the UFC. The 31-year-old has managed to secure only one win in his last six outings.
Apart from that, Gastelum was on a long hiatus as his last fight took place in August 2021. However, the San Jose native's performance against Curtis proved that Gastelum still had a lot left in the tank and could turn things around with a few more wins.
After scoring his first victory in over two years, Gastelum was understandably emotional and it showed in his post-fight octagon interview with Joe Rogan:
"Man, I had to make a radical change in me, in my soul, in my psychological... I had to go tthrough the valley of the shadow of death to be here tonight. I didn't just spend a year-and-a-half away vacationing. I struggled to be here every day and I earned this."
