Francis Ngannou's UFC exit has cast a huge shadow on the debate about the best heavyweight fighter in the world. It was a bittersweet feeling for UFC fans to learn that Jon Jones would finally be returning to the octagon, but not against Ngannou.

Ngannou's head coach Eric Nicksick is also somewhat bothered by the failure of a potential clash against Jon Jones, who he considers the MMA GOAT. However, the Xtreme Couture coach did not entirely shut down the possibility of a future clash. Nicksick said in an interview with The Schmo:

"For sure. That part's always gonna bother me in the competitive side, because Jon Jones is the GOAT to me... So the competitor in me, yes I'm always gonna wish that we had that opportunity to put a gamplan together, to go execute against who I think is the best ever to do it. So that's gonna bug but at the end of the day man, that opportunity might still be on the table later on down the line."

Francis Ngannou's coach had started initial preparations for a potential clash against Jon Jones

Jon Jones has been teasing a heavyweight debut for over two years, around the same time that Francis Ngannou dethroned Stipe Miocic at UFC 260 to be crowned the UFC heavyweight champ.

A potential mega-fight between the hardest hitter on the planet and the MMA GOAT contender has since been on the cards until Ngannou's recent release from the UFC.

Even the Francis Ngannou's coach, Eric Nicksick, had admittedly started taking notes and watching videos for a potential clash against 'Bones'. However, Nicksick knows that the knowledge he gathered watching Jones' clips will not go to waste. The Xtreme Couture coach further told The Schmo:

"We never really got into camp but obviously I have my notepads and everything else. I mean we've had really two years to prepare because after Stipe I remember, the fight that we thought was gonna be made was Jon Jones and Francis. So there was a lot of studying and stuff but those things never go by the wayside. I get to learn."
