Freddie confident Jonathan Haggerty’s ‘massive’ build will spell danger for Superlek in Denver: “He’s looking big”

Jonathan Haggerty's size may be too much for Superlek to handle. At least, that's what the two-sport king's younger brother thinks.

After an impressive third-round knockout victory over Felipe Lobo in February, 'The General' will return to the Circle on Friday, September 6, to put up his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship against Superlek, the promotion's current flyweight kickboxing titleholder.

Originally making a name for himself in the flyweight division, Jonathan Haggerty has found incredible success at bantamweight, earning noteworthy wins over Nong-O Hama, Fabricio Andrade, and the aforementioned Lobo. Along the way, he's picked up both the bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world titles.

Speaking with the South China Morning Post, Freddie Haggerty, who kickstarted his ONE Championship career with back-to-back knockouts, believes the size difference between his big brother and Superlek will be too much for 'The Kicking Machine' to overcome at ONE 168: Denver.

"I think Jon's going to wear him down," the younger Haggerty said. "Jon has built himself up for this weight, he's massive. He's looking big in training."

Thus far, Jonathan Haggerty is unbeaten at bantamweight, though Superlek has never suffered a loss in the art of eight limbs since making his ONE Championship debut more than five years ago — and that includes a win over Thai icon Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

Before stepping inside the Circle with 'The General,' Superlek returned to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok for a clash with rising Thai contender Kongthoranee Sor Sommai at ONE Friday Fights 68.

Despite a strong showing from Kongthoranee, it was 'The Kicking Machine' who ruled the day, leaving the Mecca of Muay Thai with a decisive unanimous decision victory.

Having won 10 in a row, Superlek goes into his clash with Jonathan Haggerty riding a massive wave of momentum and is determined to leave The Mile High City — Denver, Colorado — with his second ONE world title.
