The win was a bounce back for Kwon after he was knocked out by Brazil's Fabricio Andrade in his previuous fight. He followed it up with two more victories, both by TKO, with the last one coming in January this year over Mongolian fighter Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg.
Kwon Won il will battle Andrade in a rematch at ONE 170 on Jan. 24 as he tries to seize the ONE bantamweight MMA world title from 'Wonder Boy'.
The event, happening at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, will air live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Fabricio Andrade expects a much-improved Kwon Won il in rematch
Fabricio Andrade made short work of Kwon Won il in their first encounter in June 2022 but expects a different 'Pretty Boy' in their rematch at ONE 170 on Jan. 24, saying the South Korean fighter has improved a lot since they last fought.
'Wonder Boy' knocked out Kwon with a crushing body shot in the opening round of their showdown at ONE 158 in Singapore on June 3, 2022. The win solidified his standing as a bonafide contender in the bantamweight class, eventually claiming the vacant title in February last year with a win over former divisional king John Lineker.
Andrade shared his thoughts on his title defense and rematch with Kwon Won il in an interview with the Bangkok Post, saying:
"The fight ended very quickly. I was able to connect a kick to the body early on, but after he went back to the gym and really improved a lot."
ONE 170 will mark the first defense of Andrade as a ONE world champion.
