ONE Championship re-posted Martin Nguyen’s impressive win against Kirill Gorobets from March 2022.
After losing his featherweight world title to Thanh Le, Nguyen hit a rough patch by losing a second consecutive fight against Kim Jae Woong. The former two-division king was counted out before being matched up against Kirill Gorobets at ONE: LIGHTS OUT.
The Ukrainian fighter was making his promotional debut when Nguyen spoiled his special moment. ‘The Situ-Asian’ broke down Gorobets, continuing to stay patient until repeated body shots led to a third-round TKO.

Nguyen looked ready for another world championship run after defeating Gorobets. Unfortunately, ‘The Situ-Asian’ returned six months later and lost in the first round against Ilya Freymanov. The 33-year-old is now looking to return to the win column at ONE Fight Night 7 on Prime Video.
Martin Nguyen believes his world championship experience could pay dividends against Shamil Gasanov
On February 24, Martin Nguyen will have an opportunity to take out rising contender Shamil Gasanov, who is currently 13-0. Although Nguyen is considered the underdog going into ONE Fight Night 7, the former two-division world champion believes his experience could be a difference-maker.
He had this to say during an interview with SCMP MMA:
“I think my championship [experience] will play a factor, especially in the new Lumpinee Stadium. We all saw how loud that was last night. That would obviously play a factor as well. But the crowd does not fight for you so you just got to know how to control your emotions in those type of scenarios.”
Despite his historic career with ONE Championship, Nguyen has a tough test ahead of him. Gasanov made his promotional debut in October 2022 and defeated Kim Jae Woong with a first-round submission. With that said, ‘The Situ-Asian’ might have one last world championship run up his sleeve.
