Rodtang Jitmuangnon has been formidable since becoming ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion in 2019, successfully defending the title five times. One of the those came at the expense of longtime rival Petchdam Petchyindee in July 2020 in a barnburner of a contest that saw him win by majority decision.

Against 'The Baby Shark,' Rodtang had to dig deep to buck the tough challenge put up by the challenger. It was all action right from the get-go, with both fighters throwing telling hits to swing the tide in their favor.

But the Jitmuangnon Gym standout proved to be steadier between the two as the fight wore on, stunning Petchdam with a variety of hooks, elbows and body shots, which in the end turned out to be key in convincing the judges to give him the decision win.

The victory was the second in three matches for Rodtang over Petchdam in their overall head-to-head match-up.

Rodtang seeks to stay as world champion in rematch against Jacob Smith

Rodtang Jitmuangnon seeks to keep the status quo in the ONE flyweight Muay Thai division with him on top when he makes another defense of the world title against British challenger Jacob Smith at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug on Nov. 8 in Thailand.

It is a rematch of their first encounter two years ago in a non-title fight, where the Thai superstar dominated on his way to the victory by unanimous decision.

While he lorded it over the Englishman the first time around, Rodtang believes Smith is deserving of a rematch, considering the toughness the latter showed in their initial encounter and how he has grown since as a fighter.

He told Sportskeeda MMA in an interview:

"Smith today may not be Smith years ago. I believe everyone evolves into a different person always. He deserves another chance with me."

Rodtang-Smith II is one of the co-main events at ONE 169: Malykhin vs. Reug Reug, which will be aired live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
