From the opening bell, 'The Iron Man's' relentless offense overwhelmed Tabares, who struggled to keep up with the Thai megastar.
The pressure culminated in the second round, where the Thai landed a picture-perfect elbow strike to secure a decisive finish and keep the gold-plated belt around his waist.
The knockout added another highlight to his storied career and earned him a $100,000 performance bonus from ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.
Rodtang squares off with Takeru at ONE 172 in Japan
Now, Rodtang Jitmuangnon is gearing up for another blockbuster bout, this time against Japanese sensation Takeru Segawa.
The two will headline the much-anticipated ONE 172 in a five-round flyweight kickboxing clash on March 23, 2025, at the iconic Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
The dream matchup was initially set for early 2024 but was postponed after Rodtang sustained an injury during training camp. With the Jitmuangnon Gym athlete fully recovered, he is eager to prove his mettle against a decorated striker such as Takeru.
The 27-year-old faces the dual challenge of competing in enemy territory and under a ruleset where Takeru has excelled through the years. Despite the odds, the former ONE world champion enters the bout brimming with confidence.
In his last kickboxing assignment, he proved his versatility by dismantling Denis Puric over three rounds, demonstrating that he is much more than just a Muay Thai specialist.
