'The Kicking Machine' employed a rangy approach against his 32-year-old foe, as he happily fought from the outside using his kicks and one-two punching combinations.
Whenever Puertas pressed the action at close range, Superlek fired his lethal knee strikes to the body, instantly fending off his offense and backing the Spaniard up.
This strategy has effectively persuaded the judges to give him a unanimous nod, and he was able to secure his first-ever 26-pound golden belt under the world's largest martial arts organization.
Superlek says that he's not scared of Nico Carrillo's punching power ahead of their championship fight at ONE 170
Currently, the reigning two-sport and two-division world champion is now preparing to defend his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai crown for the first time against No. 2-ranked divisional contender Nico Carrillo in the co-main event of ONE 170 on Jan. 24 inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
Ahead of that match, the Kiatmoo9 Gym representative shared his sentiments about 'The King of the North' through an interview with journalist Andrew Whitelaw, where he reiterated that he is not afraid of him.
The Thai striking superstar even welcomed his aggressive style, as he stated:
"I'm not scared of guys like this. I like to fight guys with this style, and I like new challenges too."
