Martial arts superstars Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Takeru Segawa set things explosive at the start of this year with their super fight for the flyweight kickboxing world title in Japan.
The two headlined ONE 165 at Tokyo's Ariake Arena on Jan. 28, where they treated fight fans to a total war of attrition that went the full route of five rounds, with the Thai superstar retaining his world title in the end by way of a hard-earned decision.
Superlek was in his element as he defended the flyweight gold for the second time since winning the then-vacant championship belt in January last year. Anchored on his blazing leg kicks, he made 'The Natural Born Crusher' labored throughout their contest.
Takeru had his moments in the third round, unleashing ferocious body shots that 'The Kicking Machine' had to endure, but it was not enough to swing the tide in his favor in his promotional debut.

He is now set to defend the bantamweight championship belt in his next match at ONE 170 on Jan. 24 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, against No. 2 contender Nico Carrillo of Scotland.
Takeru, meanwhile, bounced back in his second match in ONE in September, knocking out rising star Thant Zin of Myanmar. He is now preparing for his long-planned showdown with Thai superstar Rodtang Jitmuangnon next year.
Superlek excited to defend bantamweight gold against Nico Carrillo
Superlek Kiatmoo9 is set to defend his newly won bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 170 on Jan. 24 and is excited to do it against a formidable opponent in Nico Carrillo.
The Thai superstar, who won the bantamweight belt with a 49-second KO of erstwhile divisional king Jonathan Haggerty in September, shared this in an interview with the South China Morning Post, saying:
"He is said to be the best in the division and I'm very excited to face him. I haven't got a game plan yet, but it will be a great fight."
In Carrillo, the reigning champion is up against a challenger packing a lot of heat and momentum, winning all of his four matches to date in ONE, all coming by way of knockout.
ONE 170 will be aired live and for free in U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
