At ONE on Prime Video 5, Tye Ruotolo picked up his second win of the year inside the circle. With a submission victory over Marat Gafurov, Ruotolo earned a second performance bonus in as many wins in ONE Championship.

After catching his opponent in a triangle choke, Ruotolo grabbed a hold of his opponent’s arm and secured the tap with a wrist lock-armbar hybrid. The official result was determined to be an armbar victory.

Tye got the job done against the former ONE featherweight world champion in just half the scheduled time for the bout. This capped off a great year for the BJJ prodigy, having won bronze in the absolutes division of the 2022 ADCC World Championships and submitting Garry Tonon at ONE 157 in the opening two minutes of his ONE Championship debut.

With his second submission win inside the circle, Tye Ruotolo could be targeting a world championship belt. With that, he could join the likes of Mikey Musumeci and his brother Kade to claim his rightful place among the promotion’s top stars in submission grappling.

“My opportunity is going to come” - Tye Ruotolo believes world title shot is not far off

ONE on Prime Video 5 was another showcase event for Kade and Tye Ruotolo. On December 2, both twins secured victories in Manila to cap off their incredible runs in 2022.

Both twins have been right at the forefront of ONE’s expansion into submission grappling, becoming big stars in the promotion.

Kade Ruotolo has had one of the most successful years by anyone in the sport, becoming the youngest ever ADCC world champion and claiming the inaugural ONE lightweight submission grappling world title.

While Kade successfully defended his world championship in the co-main event, Tye Ruotolo picked up a second win inside the circle. He is now confident that he isn’t too far away from headlining cards alongside his brother.

In his post-event press conference, Tye spoke about being patient and waiting for his time to come:

“Like I said, you know, we've both gone through waves of opportunity. Right now, my brother's killing it with the belt in the co-main and for sure, I'd like to be there as well, but I know my opportunity is going to come sooner or later. So as long as I keep doing my thing, keep submitting and putting on good performances, I'll have a belt around my waist and I'll be right there with my brother.”
