UFC heavyweight contender Daniel Cormier believes that Jorge Masvidal would have suffered the same fate even if he had fought UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman with a full training camp.

Jorge Masvidal showed why he's known as "Gamebred" and took up the fight against Usman on six days' notice after No. 1 Gilbert Burns tested positive for COVID-19. Masvidal's training partner Dustin Poirier revealed that the former was regularly slogging it out at American Top Team just in case the opportunity to fight Kamaru Usman for the title came up, and the much improved takedown defense showed during the fight.

However, Jorge Masvidal struggled through a brutal 20lb weight cut during fight week and it became apparent that Gamebred was struggling as Masvidal appeared to tire badly from all the grappling after a strong start to the contest.

Daniel Cormier says Kamaru Usman is a "nightmare" matchup for Jorge Masvidal

Usman used his superior wrestling skills to earn a unanimous decision over Masvidal, but following the event, Masvidal said that he is now aware of the formula to beat "The Nigerian Nightmare" and claimed he'll do so in a potential rematch down the line. However, according to former two-division world champion Daniel Cormier, full camp or not, Jorge Masvidal will always come up short against Kamaru usman in a fight. This is what DC wrote on his Twitter profile.

In the matchup, Usman dominated Masvidal from start to finish, proving that he can stand and trade with Gamebred on the feet, but when it came to the ground game, Usman was leagues ahead of Masvidal. The clinch was where Usman caused a lot of damage to Jorge. While it's difficult to predict the result of a potential rematch, after today's fight, it will be difficult to argue against the likelihood of another dominant win for Kamaru Usman.
