Bizarre scenes took place at the recent Fury FC event that involved referee Frank Collazo.

Edgar Chairez and Gianni Vazquez locked horns in the main event of Fury FC 76. The fight was a back-and-forth affair, but in the fourth round, Chairez caught Vasquez in a triangle submission. Vasquez attempted to break free but went to sleep before he could tap out.

Unfortunately, referee Frank Collazo failed to notice this and let the fight continue. Things got worse when Chairez switched to an armbar. This caused Vazquez to re-gain consciousness and start tapping to the submission attempt.

You can watch a clip of the incident below:

Gianni Vazquez recently did an interview with Mick Heck for MMA Fighting, where he delved into how things unfolded at Fury FC 76. Vazquez shared that he was glad that his opponent switched to an armbar while he was unconscious.

“So I’m up there [at the hospital] watching the video and I’m like, ‘Man, I passed out in his face twice. I don’t know how he didn’t notice.’ And I’m like, ‘Thank God the guy switched the triangle to the armbar, because I might be dead right now if he didn’t switch it. If he wouldn’t switch it, I might be dead or I might be like a vegetable. It might be like brain damage. But thank God I’m here, I’m still alive, and we can talk about it, I guess.”

Dana White shares his thoughts on Frank Collazo's error at Fury FC 76

UFC President Dana White recently made an appearance at the UFC San Antonio post-fight press conference. During his time there, White was asked to weigh in on Frank Collazo's mistake and the whole incident that took place in the Fury FC 76 main event.

White criticized Frank Collazo for his blunder and compared him to the infamous referee Steve Mazzagatti. The UFC president mentioned the incident when Mazzagatti officiated a fight between Jon Fitch and Joshua Burkman at WSOF 3.

Fitch got into a submission and passed out during the fight. But Mazzagatti failed to notice and Fitch only got out of the submission when Burkman released him and got up to celebrate his victory.

"I mean if a guy gets choked unconscious and you don't know he's choked unconscious, everybody has a bad night. Everybody makes mistakes but if a guy gets choked unconscious and then they pull him into an armbar and I mean, it doesn't get any worse than that. It's the one that I went after [Steve] Mazzagatti so bad about when Josh Burkman choked out, what's the kid's name, the wrestler, choked him unconscious and Mazzagatti had no idea."
