Former free-agent Shakur Stevenson, one of the most promising talents in boxing, has found a new home after signing with Matchroom Boxing, headed by Eddie Hearn. His deal with the promotion saw him secure an epic clash against Joe Cordina.

Cordina suffered his first career defeat in his previous bout against Anthony Cacace in May, losing the IBF super-featherweight title in the process. The Welshman will now move to lightweight, where he will challenge for Stevenson's WBC title.

The pair will do battle on the undercard of an incredible night of fights, with the main event featuring Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev - a highly anticipated affair.

After the signing of the WBC champion was confirmed by Hearn on Instagram, he penned the following online:

"You've heard me say for years just how special this young man is and that was even before signing him! Been around boxing for nearly 40 years and I believe Shakur Stevenson is a generational great. 27 years old, 3-division world champion and he's hardly out of first gear. Welcome to the team Champ!"

However, given that Cordina is also signed to Matchroom Boxing, it will be fascinating to watch Hearn navigate a fight between two of his clients, both of whom he has spoken highly of.

Eddie Hearn is confident Shakur Stevenson vs. Gervonta Davis happens in 2025

As two of the best fighters in the lightweight division, Shakur Stevenson and Gervonta Davis have been pushed by the boxing fanbase to try and schedule a title bout at 135 pounds.

Stevenson is the current WBC title holder, whilst 'Tank' is the reigning WBA champion, and a clash between them would be one of the biggest fights in boxing.

Following his decision to sign with Matchroom Boxing, which is run by arguably the best promoter in the sport, Eddie Hearn, it appears that a potential lightweight title unification bout could come to fruition.

Hearn recently outlined a path for the clash to take place in 2025 during an interview with Cigar Talk, saying:

"Shakur is in a good spot at the moment, there's a lot of people talking about him... But when you look at 'Tank's' options, the only thing he can really do is move to [140 pounds]. If I'm Shakur... I keep building my brand into the 'Tank' fight next year. That's a big fight when it happens. It's one of the best fights in boxing."
