A UFC great recently shared some advice for the younger generation of fighters and suggested that they refrain from devoting their time to emulating Conor McGregor. The Irishman became the biggest star in the sport with his trash talk and charisma, but he was never accused of playing a character.
There have been many instances where fighters have felt forced to trash talk in order to sell their respective fights, which doesn't come off as natural to the audience. Colby Covington has been the most notable to admit that he was forced to create a persona and ramp up his trash talk because he was on the verge of being cut from the MMA leader.
During his latest appearance on GEEKING OUT WITH MATT SERRA, UFC great Georges St-Pierre shared advice for younger fighters on how to deal with fame. St-Pierre mentioned that authenticity is the most important character trait to have to achieve success and deal with the notoriety of being a top star in the promotion:
"A lot of the new generation, they watch Conor McGregor because he made a lot of money being a good trash talker and this is who he is, he's very good at it. I think some people, they try to create a character around them and it shows that it's not authentic...If you stay authentic to who you are, I think it's more charismatic than if you are trying to play someone that you are not. I think it shows at some point." [29:40]

Georges St-Pierre explains why he never trash talked like Conor McGregor did
In addition to sharing advice for younger fighters, Georges St-Pierre explained why he never trash talked like Conor McGregor did throughout his career. Despite having some memorable quotes like, 'I'm not impressed by your performance', 'Rush' was never known for his trash talk.
During the aforementioned appearance, the UFC Hall of Famer mentioned that trash talking wasn't his strength mostly due to the language barrier:
"I just stayed authentic to who I am. And I didn't need to trash talk because first, English is not my first language and it's also just I'm not good about it. I do my talking in the octagon." [29:58]
