Gervonta Davis buries hatchet with Floyd Mayweather, reunites before Ryan Garcia fight

Gervonta Davis has officially buried the hatchet with Floyd Mayweather ahead of his return.

'Tank' has been represented by 'Money' for the majority of his professional boxing career. However, in 2021, the two men began to have a rift between them. Things were made worse when a Mayweather-trained Rolando Romero stepped up to face Davis last May.

The WBA (Regular) lightweight champion wound up knocking out 'Rolly' in the sixth round. Along with scoring another title defense and stoppage win, he was also a free agent. The bout with Romero came at the end of his deal with Mayweather Promotions.

However, nearly a year on from that saga, it seems the two boxers have buried the hatchet. During a recent interview with Boxing Scene, Gervonta Davis discussed his upcoming fight with Ryan Garcia in April. There, he revealed that he's back training at Floyd Mayweather's gym.

For the lightweight champion, the jump isn't a big deal, and it's all business. In the interview, Davis stated:

“I mean, why not [train at Mayweather’s gym]? Why not? I feel as though they have a good boxing gym. Why not?”

Calvin Ford discusses Gervonta Davis training with Floyd Mayweather

Gervonta Davis' trainer, Calvin Ford, has stated that the bridge between 'Tank' and Floyd Mayweather was never burned.

While the lightweight champion did exit Mayweather Promotions last year, he remained on good terms with Leonard Ellerbe. The right hand of 'Money', and the longtime CEO of the promotional stable, it seemed that the two sides could eventually reunite.

During the interview with Boxing Scene, Calvin Ford, the trainer of Davis, stated exactly that. In the interview, the coach stated that the parting between the two sides all had to do with business, and it wasn't personal.

When it comes to Gervonta Davis returning to the gym, it's the same deal. The lightweight champion feels that he gave the legend seven years of his service. But that time is up, and his time is now.

In the interview, the trainer stated:

“Floyd is doing his thing. Gervonta is doing his thing. He gave Floyd seven good years. Floyd isn't complaining. [Mayweather] said that ‘he made good money.’ A great investment. Now it’s Tank’s time to do what Floyd did. You gotta respect that. Floyd has respected that. Now it’s our job to do what we need to do and be the future of boxing. The door was never closed."
