Ryan Garcia’s promoter and head of Golden Boy Promotions Oscar De La Hoya doesn’t think that Davis vs. Garcia will go the full distance.

De La Hoya will have a say in selecting the panel of judges that will score the 136-pound catchweight bout, but doesn’t think judges' scorecards will be necessary for the fight. He told BoxingScene:

“It’s gonna end in a knockout, I have no clue who’s gonna win by knockout, but it’s gonna end by knockout. The power is too much up in that ring. There’s two guys that just are very powerful. And they’re explosive, so I’m sure whoever lands the first [flush] punch is gonna win the fight.”

This isn't a very bold claim for Oscar De La Hoya, as both fighters possess lethal power in their fists. Ryan Garcia (23-0, 19 KOs) has an 83 percent KO rate and has won six of his last seven bouts via stoppages.

Meanwhile, Gervonta Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) is a knockout artist through and through, with a 93 percent KO rate and only one of his last 19 fights going to a decision.

Floyd Mayweather might have parted ways with Gervonta Davis on the promotional side, but has always believed that ‘Tank’ will stop Ryan Garcia in their upcoming fight. In an interview with FightHype.com, Mayweather backed Davis to finish Garcia:

“Ryan hasn’t won a title yet. We don’t talk about no interim belt – that don’t count. And we not taking nothing away from the guy, Fortuna, but he was just an opponent. I’m gonna have Tank in the best shape of his life, and just know, when he hit that boy, he ain’t gonna wake up until next year.”

The relationship between Gervonta Davis and Mayweather Promotions remains unclear, as the promotion’s CEO Leonard Ellerbe continues to be heavily involved in all of ’Tank’s fights, including the build-up to the Ryan Garcia bout.

Davis vs. Garcia will take place on April 22nd at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
