“Getting some revenge” - Johan Ghazali plans to avenge his older brother’s defeat to Johan Estupinan in ONE 170 matchup

The lore between the looming barnburner between Johan Ghazali and Johan Estupinan just got deeper. The two young knockout machines are set for a crucial flyweight Muay Thai clash at the stacked ONE 170 event on Jan. 24, 2025, at Impact Arena.

In an interview with ONE Championship, Ghazali said his fight against Estupinan isn't just a matchup between two rising stars, but it's also a meeting the Malaysian-American standout wants on a personal level.

Ghazali revealed that Estupinan once beat his older brother Elias in the amateur circuit and that he'd stop at nothing to avenge that loss when he squares off against the Colombian speedster in Bangkok.

Johan Ghazali said:

"I don't think many of you know, but he fought my older brother once. My brother lost, it was a close fight. [I'm] Getting ready to get some revenge for my brother. It will be a good fight, definitely."

Ghazali and Estupinan have yet to crack the top five of the flyweight Muay Thai rankings, but the young phenoms have always delivered every time they stepped inside the cage.

Estupinan is a perfect 4-0 in ONE Championship, 26-0 overall, with three knockout wins in the promotion. The 20-year-old is coming off a thrilling second-round finish of Zakaria El Jamari when they squared off at ONE Fight Night 25 in October.

Ghazali, meanwhile, has 25 wins in his professional career and is an impressive 6-1 in ONE Championship, with five of his promotional victories coming via knockout.

The 18-year-old plans to restart another winning streak after coming off an electrifying knockout win over Mexican slugger Josue Cruz at ONE 168: Denver in September.

Johan Ghazali is no stranger to fighting different Muay Thai styles, yet he believes Johan Estupinan will give him a different showing when they square off at ONE 170.

In an interview with Anything Combat, Ghazali said Estupinan uses an unorthodox style vastly different from what Thai fighters use:

"He's a very unorthodox fighter. A different fighter. He doesn't fight like traditional Thais or traditional Muay Thai fighters."
