Gordon Ryan has reigned supreme in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu world over the past four years, all while battling a crippling stomach issue. 'The King' has shed light on the issue over the past few years, and recently explained the extent to which he has been suffering.
Ryan is regarded by many as the greatest no-gi BJJ player of all time, and has been undefeated since his loss to Vinny Magalhaes in 2018. Ryan's dominance is unprecedented in the world of jiu-jitsu, all the while operating at less than 50% capacity.
'The King' recently appeared on the Straight Outta The Lair podcast with bodybuilder Flex Lewis, and detailed the health problems that forced him to briefly retire in 2021.
Here is what Gordon Ryan said:

"When I had to retire, I couldn't even function as a human being. It wasn't like, 'Oh my training's not going so great.' No, it was like, 'I can't hold a conversation with people' I'd have to get up and walk away... 2018 to 2022 my stomach was messed up. That's when I was winning. For atleast an hour a day, I'd be in the bathroom. I wouldn't actually throw up, but I'd be sitting next to the toilet like I was gonna throw up any moment."

Gordon Ryan responds to Dillon Danis' claim that they were meant to fight
Dillon Danis recently appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, and discussed an incident involving himself and Gordon that took place several years ago.
According to Danis, 'The King' had posted something on Instagram about his mother which forced 'El Jefe' to retaliate. He claimed to have arrived at Ryan's gym with the intention of fighting him, and that 'The King' ran out of Renzo Gracie New York because he was 'scared'.
Gordon Ryan responded via Instagram with evidence and shared his side of the story. 'The King' quipped:
"@arielhelwani imaginelying about something when you know there are receipts? What actually happened was Dillon came to the gym when he knew I wasn't there, sent me a pic of the outside of renzos, which was 2 blocks from marcelos and a 5 minute walk, then never showed up again after I gave him my schedule."
