Gordon Ryan has re-ignited his feud with former teammate Craig Jones following the Australian's confirmation that a second edition of the Craig Jones Invitational (CJI) competition will take place in 2025.

The CJI took the grappling world by storm in 2024, with the whopping $1 million prize money turning the heads of many Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes.

Jones decided to host the CJI on the same weekend as the most prestigious grappling event in the world, the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Championships, in a bid to try at improve athlete pay in the sport.

With Ryan a long time participant of ADCC, his feathers were ruffled by his rival's new tournament, which saw many athletes who were set to participate in ADCC 2024 jump ship and join the CJI, hoping to secure a million-dollar payday.

Following Jones' announcement that CJI 2 would take place, 'The King' took to Instagram and said:

"[Craig] and [Joe] Biden have a lot in common. All they do is lie and lose."

He continued:

"Can't win a comp [Craig's] entire 'reason' for throwing cgi on the same day as ADCC was because he 'wanted athletes to get paid more', so he had to do it the same day... With ADCC having an off year, this is a perfect time to go after ibjjf for not paying athletes."

Gordon Ryan undecided on competing at ADCC 2026

Gordon Ryan is the most accomplished athlete to compete at ADCC, having won six world titles in seven years, starting in 2017. Ryan is the consensus greatest submission grappler of all-time and holds an unbeaten streak that stretches back to 2018.

Given the prestige held by 'The King', as well as him being just 28 years old, his recent comments about not competing at ADCC 2026 have come as a surprise.

Ryan appeared in front of the media at UFC 310 on Dec. 7, where he was asked about appearing at ADCC 2026 and said:

"But [2026], we'll see. We'll see how it plays out. Number one, the main thing is just my health. Getting my stomach to a point where I can actually grapple well. Number two. we'll see what ADCC becomes in 2026... I really have no reason to do it unless I'm healthy enough and there's some kind of incentive."
