“Grateful for every single part of this journey” - JP Gallacher ready to lead Nico Carrillo to ONE Championship gold at ONE 170

They may be peers, but JP Gallacher has been Nico Carrillo's most trusted advisor inside and outside the ropes.

Carrillo will have his mentor behind him for the biggest challenge of his career when he faces Nabil Anane for the ONE interim bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 170 on Jan. 24 at Impact Arena.

Expressing his thoughts on Instagram, Gallacher recalled how he and Carrillo set out to fulfill their dream of becoming one of the best pairings in Muay Thai history.

Gallacher wrote that he was grateful to have been in Nico Carrillo's corner in every step of the Scotsman improbable journey from the back alleys of Scotland to Muay Thai's biggest stage.

"From the days when we were only 14 and 16, having to get money off my mum to buy train fares to take Nico to fight in wee sports centers in different parts of the country, two wee guys who didn’t really have a clue what we were doing just supreme confidence n faith that we’d figure it out," posted Gallacher.

"A big dream but not a clue how we were going to it, but we were sure as fuck that we were going to make it. From the small sports centers in Scotland to the sold-out Impact Arena in Bangkok. Grateful for every single part of this journey, the ups, the downs, all the struggles, and for all the people who’ve helped us along the way, and still do."

With Carrillo on the precipice of history, Gallacher is ready to lead his old friend to fulfill their shared dream of martial arts glory.

Nico Carrillo knows pressure is inevitable in the world of combat sports, and he's ready to face that challenge head-on at ONE 170.

Taking to Instagram, Carrillo said he's prepared to soak in the bright lights when he steps inside the circle against the 6-foot-4 Nabil Anane in Bangkok:

"Hope will only get a man so far, put the pressure on. It's go time."

A win over Anane at ONE 170 would set Carrillo up for a world title unification match against Superlek Kiatmoo9 for the undisputed ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship at ONE 172 on March 23 at Saitama Super Arena.
