Conor McGregor has just shared a short Instagram clip of him doing a daytime run, which marks a significant step toward his octagon return after sustaining a recent toe injury that forced him out of UFC 303. He was originally scheduled to main event the pay-per-view in his highly anticipated return to action.

His then scheduled opponent was former three-time Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler, who has been campaigning for a fight with the Irishman. The pair were expected to lock horns at welterweight, before the dreaded toe injury led to McGregor's withdrawal from the event.

As expected, the clip generated significant interest among MMA fans, many of whom have been waiting for 'The Notorious' to step back inside the octagon since the career-threatening injury he suffered against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Countless fans popped up in the comments section of the Instagram post.

One of them called for a rematch between the Irishman and the great José Aldo, who 'The Notorious' knocked out in 13 seconds back in his featherweight days.

"ALDO VS MCGREGOR 2"

Another fan labeled McGregor's expected return as MMA's greatest-ever comeback.

"Come back Conor already, we want to hear the greatest comeback in MMA history."

This sentiment was echoed by other fans.

"Greatest comeback of all time loading"

Not every comment was positive, however, with one fan doubting that McGregor will ever fight again.

"Keep running broski. You're finished. Never fighting again"

Both fans and Chandler will await the Irishman's return with bated breath, especially the latter, who hasn't fought in two years.

Conor McGregor hasn't fought since 2021

The last time fans saw Conor McGregor compete inside the octagon was July 10, 2021, when he faced Dustin Poirier in a trilogy bout. 'The Notorious' came into the matchup with a loss against Poirier, having been TKO'd at UFC 257.

Unfortunately, at UFC 264, he snapped his lower shin in half in round one, sidelining him since then, with many fearing that McGregor would never fight again, and he still hasn't.
