Veteran Cuban fighter Gustavo Balart is on a mission to earn a comfortable life not only for himself, but his family as well. It has always been on his mind and is the fuel that propels him as he continues to reach greater heights in the sport.
'El Gladiador' made the tough decision to leave Cuba eight years ago for the United States to work on his game and be a success. But there is not a day that he does not think of the reason why he made the move.
Gustavo Balart spoke about this in an interview with ONE Championship ahead of his bid for the interim strawweight MMA world title at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video this week in Thailand.

"The more success I have, the more money I can earn to bring my family here to give them the life they deserve. I want my daughters to receive proper education and my dad and my mom to have a comforatble life here in the U.S. I have been here in the U.S. without my family for eight years. I came here in 2016."
While Gustavo Balart has established a steady professional career in MMA since turning professional in 2015, with a win-loss record of 12-4, he wants to elevate his status further by becoming a world champion under ONE Championship.
He will have an opportunity to do just that at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video on Aug. 2, where he will vie for the interim ONE strawweight MMA world title against former divisional king Jarred Brooks.
The promotion is holding an interim world title fight in the strawwweight division as reigning champion Joshua Pacio is out indefinitely because of an ACL injury.
ONE Fight Night 24 will take place at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and will air live and for free at U.S. primetime to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Gustavo Balart seeks to extend impressive winning run
Apart from claiming the interim strawweight MMA belt, Gustavo Balart is also out to extend his ongoing impressive win-streak at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video on Aug. 2.
Currently, 'El Gladiador' has racked up four straight victories after seeing his ONE Championship journey get off to a slow start with three straight losses.
His turnaround started in July 2021 in Singapore, where he notched a unanimous decision victory over Japanese Ryuto Sawada. Back-to-back victories over Yosuke Saruta followed in 2022, allowing him to take his place among the top contenders in the strawweight division.
Gustavo Balart's latest win came back in January over Hiroba Minowa of Japan by split decision.
