Claressa Shields is confident about her chances against Jake Paul in a potential fight. Shields downplayed Paul's boxing abilities, claiming that the 27-year-old's skills are not on her level yet. The boxing great also claimed that her upcoming opponent is capable of beating Paul.
Shields is preparing to defend her WBC heavyweight title and WBO light heavyweight title against undefeated contender Danielle Perkins in a heavyweight showdown on Feb. 2 in front of her home audience in Flint, Michigan. The two will also fight for the vacant WBA heavyweight title.
Before the title fight, Shields spoke to USA TODAY Sports and discussed facing Paul in a potential fight, saying:
''I don't know if it's something that can happen, but I know that I can whip Jake Paul’s (expletive) and people who are against that are just sexist and they don't know boxing. It's very strange to me that they think that a YouTuber can beat a woman boxer who has two Olympic gold medals, (multiple) world titles and fought as a heavyweight...He does not have the experience. They talk about power. You can have power, but you got to have the skills to land a punch.’’

Shields added Paul needed to improve his skills and that Perkins was also capable of defeating him.
''Jake Paul showed that he has not gotten better with his skills," she said. “He needs to train harder and better. And honestly, I think the girl that I'm getting ready to fight against, Danielle Perkins, can beat Jake Paul, too." [H/t: USA Today]
Shields holds a professional record of 15-0. In her most recent boxing outing, the 29-year-old captured the WBC heavyweight title by knocking out Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in the second round.
Meanwhile, Paul improved his professional record to 11-1 by securing a unanimous decision victory against boxing legend Mike Tyson last November.
Roy Jones Jr. is open to facing Jake Paul in a boxing match
Heavyweight boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. recently addressed speculations that he will face Jake Paul.
Jones Jr. recently denied claims of a scheduled boxing contest with Paul in an Instagram post. However, the 55-year-old expressed interest in a future matchup with 'The Problem Child,' writing:
''I was Mike's last opponent before the big exhibition that they put on, I do feel like I’d probably be the most noteworthy opponent at this point. HOWEVER………. I have not been contacted about any of these allegations so it is NOT A REALITY at this point in time. For the record- just like in my prime, I’m always JUST A CALL “OUT” away.''
