Ham Seo Hee wants Angela Lee but knows it may be ‘sensitive’ and difficult

Following her recent victory, No. 2 contender Ham Seo Hee expressed interest in getting a title shot against reigning ONE atomweight world champion Angela Lee. But she also knows that considering the sensitive situation the divisional queen is in, such a showdown may not be appropriate at the moment.

'Hamzzang' chalked up a third straight victory in ONE Championship at the weekend, defeating Itsuki Hirata of Japan by unanimous decision at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video in Singapore.

The win further solidified Ham’s standing in the atomweight division and made a case for herself to vie for the title against Lee.

Following her win, Ham Seo Hee reiterated her wish to take on Angela Lee in a championship showdown, only if possible:

“It's not Stamp or Alyse, of course. I would definitely wish to challenge Angela Lee, but I understand that may not be a possibility, understanding some of the more sensitive circumstances that have occurred. I haven't really thought of anyone else apart from those three people,” said Ham Seo Hee while alluding to other title contenders Stamp Fairtex and Alyse Anderson.

Angela Lee and her family are still mourning the untimely passing of her sister and fellow ONE fighter, Victoria, last December at the age of 18. ONE Championship is giving the Lees all the time and space they need during this difficult time.

Ham Seo Hee willing to face anyone for world title if Angela Lee isn’t available

With a title shot against the reigning divisional champion rendered an impossibility at the moment, No. 2 contender Ham Seo Hee said she is open to fighting anyone for a world title.

The South Korean veteran is fresh from her unanimous decision victory over Itsuki Hirata at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video on March 24 in Singapore. Prior to her match, Ham Seo Hee shared in an interview with SCMP MMA her title goals:

“If I win this [Hirata] fight , I will strongly appeal for a shot at the [women’s atomweight] world title. If I can fight for the [world] title, anyone’s fine.”

Ham Seo Hee is awaiting the availability of reigning ONE atomweight world champion Angela Lee, who is currently out as she and her family deal with a personal tragedy that befell them recently.

Talk is rife though of a possible match for an interim atomweight world title in light of the ongoing situation, which could involve Ham and the winner between Stamp Fairtex and American fighter Alyse Anderson later this year.

With what is possibly at stake, 'Hamzzang' will be an interested observer for the Stamp-Anderson clash at ONE Fight Night 10 on Prime Video, happening on May 5 at the 1stBank Center in Colorado, U.S.A.
