UFC middleweight Gerald Meerschaert recently appeared on the Show Me The Money podcast to talk about his latest win and the immediate future of his fighting career. Meerschaert, who holds the record for the most finishes in UFC middleweight history with 12, pulled off a Performance of the Night-winning victory over Edmen Shahbazyan at UFC Vegas 96 last month.
Meerschaert revealed that instead of keeping the $50,000 performance bonus to himself, he chose to split it with his coaches at Kill Cliff FC in Florida.

Gerald Meerschaert explains why he chose to split his performance bonus with his coaches
Gerald Meerschaert is grateful to his coaches and sees his wins as products of the team's efforts.
In the aforementioned podcast, Meerschaert explained why he split his bonus with his coaches:
"Pretty much since I've been on the UFC, I try to make sure I try to like, make sure I take care of my coaches, especially the guys that come with me on the fight trips because, you know, you're taking time away from your families, you're taking time away from whatever else you got going on... You deserve to be compesated for that."
'GM3' added:
"You know, we don't make as much as like, NBA or NFL players or whatever, right... More than any other sport, the coaches [in MMA] aren't as compensated as well as well as these big ball sports because we just don't have the backing that some of those other ones have... And on top of that, I'm not going to get what I get and win as much as I do without those guys and their knowledge and their bodies."
